Recording took place at Sunset Sound, Chez JMJ and Unit 2. Justin Meldal-Johnsen and the band handled producer duties. Sessions were engineered by Mike Schuppan, Carlos de la Garza, Meldal-Johnsen, Jim Adkins and Zach Lind, with assistance from Geoff Neal. Ken Andrews mixed the recordings while Dave Cooley mastered them at Elysian Mastering.[4]

On August 21, 2016, the band premiered the song "Get Right" on BBC Radio 1, and confirmed that the song would appear on their forthcoming album, as well a lengthy world tour being in the works.[5] The song was released a day later, and it was available at the band's official website for free download.[6] On August 30, the band debuted the lead single "Sure and Certain" on KROQ-FM[7] and confirmed details about the album, such as Justin Meldal-Johnsen as the album's producer.[8] On September 6, the band announced the fall tour dates over the United States and Europe, as well the track list and album cover.[9]

Released to positive reviews, the album became the band's highest charting release in the UK, reaching number 21 on the UK Albums Chart.[10] The album was the tenth best selling album of the week in the United States (pure sales).[11]
