ABBA - Waterloo (Saturday Night Live 1975)

Checking for Matches…

The second song from ABBA'a SNL appearance in 1975

For their second number on Saturday Night Live, ABBA once again return to the stage on the "Titanic", this time to perform "Waterloo". As is pointed out by the on-screen graphics, the band are lip-synching, because "The tracks didn't arrive from Sweden". Other than Ashlee Simpson in 2005, ABBA are the only act to have ever lip synched on the show. Lorne Michaels, creator and executive producer of Saturday Night Live, and network middleman Dick Ebersol clashed over ABBA's usage of backing vocals; Lorne wanted live acts performing live, and Ebersol thought they were fine as they were. In the end, Ebersol won the battle but lost the war; his input in the show was greatly diminished after this episode.
